I have been a governor at Kimberley Primary School for over 12 years, serving as chair of the governing body between 2009-2015. Both my sons attended the school, and I have lived in the Kimberley area all my life, attending Horsendale Primary and the Kimberley School. I work as an Engineering Geologist at the British Geological Survey, looking at geological hazards such as landslides, coastal erosion, volcanoes and glaciers. I also do a lot of work in schools teaching about volcanoes, earthquakes and tsunamis so I understand how important it is to provide children with a stimulating environment offering visual, audio and kinaesthetic learning, in order for them all to ‘go on and learn’.
Whittington Church of England Primary School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. We expect all staff and volunteers to share our commitment to keeping children safe.
The school has a number of policies and procedures in place that contribute to our safeguarding commitment including our Safeguarding Policy which can be viewed in the 'School Policies' section of our website. We teach safeguarding to the children in a range of subjects including internet safety within out computing curriculum.
Whittington Church of England Primary School works in partnership with parents and a range of other agencies in order to ensure that all children are kept safe.
A key document which informs our thinking on safeguarding is 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' and we actively support the Government's Prevent Agenda to counter radicalism and extremism.
Advice for parents about internet safety can be found on our website in the 'Computing and E Safety' section of our website.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and Single Point of Contact is Mr Gary Richards (Head Teacher).
